To get you up to speed on where I am in my design career, I thought I would go through some of the projects that I have worked on over my these first two years of my degree.
Year 1
To start off my university experience my first project was to design a kiosk for a given building. The building I had to design a kiosk for was the Norwich Cathedral. To start with I visited the Cathedral to gather some inspirational images and to get an idea of where the kiosk would be situated. The design I decided to go with drew influences from the newly installed stain glass windows, using the primary colours to form the windows of the kiosk. For the form I used the steeple as a starting point to create a diamond spaced structure.
Some other projects from my first year included designing a penthouse suit apartment for some personas that I got to choose, a brand collaboration using an up-cycled shipping container to join two brands together. The brands I chose were Lacoste and WWF to create a product raising awareness of wildlife and environmental damage like the Australian forest fires. My final project was to design a pavilion to promote a global cause, I chose deforestation and created a series of tree-like structures using metal mesh to imitate tree trunks. From working on these projects throughout the year I realised that I want my designs to focus on sustainability. This will be at the forefront of my design proposals as it is crucial to have a positive effect on our planet and not contribute to the present crisis.
Year 2
This year I have worked on two projects so far, I will be uploading some images to the main page. The first project was about designing a restaurant for a specific culture which needed to be evident through the design narrative. The space given was one of the university buildings which created a couple challenges due to the angled walls, different floor levels and large amount of windows. Although, this project had been my favourite so far as I got a real insight of how my design would come across with the renders. I got to see how the lighting choices helped portray a calming ambience in the space.
I am now working on repurposing one of the churches found in the city of Norwich. I initially struggled to come up with an idea that I wanted to pursue. I started off wanting to create a spa/wellness centre but after seeing the previous years work I wanted to try something different and more original. So I went back to the start of the design process and I'm now working on creating an indoor market space that will create a sense of community with a cafe space in the centre. I will be uploading some sketches of my ideas to the main page to document my design process.
Looking forward in the current circumstances, with the virus effecting the course, I am hoping to get a project that I can introduce my interest of product design or sculptural design as well as the main interior space.
